The Alliance for Peacebuilding is committed to safeguarding and maintaining the privacy of your personal information. AfP’s collects and uses (or process) personal data about visitors to its website and at conferences and events. This Privacy Notice describes practices related to the collection and processing of personal information when users visit AfP’s website and register and attend events and conferences at AfP. AfP does not sell, rent, or trade user data.

For purposes of clarity, “processing” as used in this notice includes the collection, use, storage, transmission, disclosure, and destruction of personal information. This Privacy Notice applies to all information collected by AfP and its third-party service providers, including but not limited to websites and applications.

By continuing to use and interact with AfP and provide your personal information, you are accepting the terms of this Privacy Notice.

Processing Data: AfP processes personal data for a variety of reasons and will process your personal data consistent with the consent you have provided for a stated purpose. The following are examples of why AfP collects data including:

  • verifying your identity at our conferences and events;

  • conducting research in accordance with our mission;

  • managing and improving customer service interactions including your registered account(s) ;

  • contacting you regarding our events, including announcements and messages;

  • preventing potentially prohibited or illegal activities, including fraud prevention and detection; and

  • collecting your information for any other purposes disclosed to you or pursuant to your consent.

Information Collected: AfP collects, and processes two types of information (1) information voluntarily provided by you to receive requested information and/or services, and (2) information automatically collected upon your navigation including, on its website/event applications.

AfP collects information which you provide, such as when you: request information; use a device to interact with a website; register for events and conferences; or otherwise interact or communicate with AfP (including via its websites or other electronic means).

When you use AfP’s website and register for events and conferences, AfP automatically collects information.  

AfP uses cookies and similar technologies on our website to distinguish you from other users to enhance your experience and improve our website, applications, and user experiences. You may be able to refuse or disable cookies by adjusting your web browser or mobile device settings, but certain functionalities of the website or applications may no longer function for you if you choose to do so. AfP may also collect certain information automatically when you register, visit our website, or use our event applications, such as your Internet protocol (IP) address, device and advertising identifiers, browser type, operating system, Internet service provider, pages that you visit before and after using the Sites, the date and time of your visit, information about the links you click, the pages you view, the general manner in which you navigate our website or application, and other standard server log information.

AfP may combine such information with information previously collected from other sources, including through third-party services and organizations.  For example, we may collect information from these third-party platforms if you access third-party services, such as Facebook, Google, LinkedIn, or Twitter at our conferences and events.

Children and Minors: If you are a US resident under the age of 18 or an EU Resident and under the age of 16 please do not provide any personal information on AfP’s website or r conferences or event applications without parental consent. For more information, US residents may consult the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, and EU Residents may consult the General Data Protection Regulation. If you believe AfP has collected personal information about a child or minor, please contact us immediately, at the address included under the “Contact” section, so that AfP can take appropriate action.

Third Party Disclosure: AfP may share your personal data with its third-party service providers to provide services.  The information provided to the third-party service providers will be limited to the extent necessary to provide the user-requested information and/or services, or as required by applicable law enforcement agencies.

·       AfP may need to share your information with some of our service providers, including our registration and application providers.  You should review the applicable terms and policies, including privacy and information gathering practices, of these third-party sites.

·       AfP may disclose your information when it is required by law, including to comply with a judicial order served from law enforcement authorities.  Additionally, AfP may disclose your information to protect and defend the rights, interests, health, safety, and security of AfP, our users, or the public, or in connection with a substantial corporate transaction, such as the sale of a website, merger, or in the unlikely event of a bankruptcy.

Security: AfP maintains administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect against loss, misuse, unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction of the information including but not limited to:

  • Secure, cloud back-up for data storage;

  • Software encryption of application data utilizing HTTPS and encryption software;

  • Secure servers that require secure, single-user passwords;

  • Access to personal information is granted only on a need-to-know basis, and de-identified when used for reporting, research, and event improvement purposes; and

  • Retention of your information for the period necessary for the purposes set out in this Notice, and in accordance with applicable laws.

Although AfP has security measures in place to protect personal data you provide to it, you are encouraged to take steps on your own to protect your information. You should be aware that any information you post or disclose in groups, forums, message boards, and similar contexts may become public.

Know Your Rights: By providing information directly to AfP, you consent to the transfer of your personal information outside of the applicable country you reside. Current laws and regulations of the United States may not provide the same level of protection as the data and privacy laws and regulations of the country you reside.

You may be able to refuse or disable cookies by adjusting your web browser settings. You may also opt out of certain communications by contacting AfP directly. If you are aware of changes or inaccuracies in your information under AfP’s control, you should inform AfP so that we can update and correct it. Where provided by law, you may at any time withdraw any consent you previously provided to us (without affecting the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal) or restrict or object to the processing of your information, and we will apply your preferences going forward. 

If you reside in a member state of either the European Union or European Free Trade Association that is a party to the EEA Agreement (collectively, EU Residents) you have the right to access personal information that AfP has collected about you for the purpose of reviewing, modifying, correcting, or requesting erasure of your information. You may also have the right to request a copy of your information. Further, you may also request that AfP restrict or stop processing your information. Finally, you may object to communications, direct marketing, or automated processing of your personal information.

To the extent applicable, the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation provide further information about your rights. You also have the right to lodge complaints with your national or regional data protection authority.

Updates to Privacy Notice

AfP may update this Notice from time-to-time.  When we update the Notice, AfP will revise the “Effective Date” and post the new Privacy Notice. AfP recommends you review the Notice each time you visit our website or Conference and Event webpages and applications to stay informed of any updated privacy practices.
